The Dominican Friars

St Fra Angelico, The Dominican Saints
Altarpiece of San Domenico, now in the National Gallery, London

Our Parish Priest, Fr John Neill, is a member of the Order of Preachers, more commonly known as the Dominicans. He is sometimes assisted in the parish by Fr Dominic Murphy, also a Dominican friar. Both Fr John and Fr Dominic belong to the Pacific Dominican Province of the Assumption. The Dominican presence in our parish, which comes as part of a long history of Religious at St Benedict’s, including Franciscans, Benedictines, Sisters of the Good Samaritan and Marist Brothers, has brought another dimension to parish life. We parishioners feel enriched by the Dominican charism of preaching and commitment to communal prayer.

For further information on the Dominicans, their founder St Dominic and the Dominican charism, see the Order’s website.

Lay Dominicans

A group of Lay Dominicans meets on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month at 4.30 p.m. in the Common Room of the University of Notre Dame (opposite the church door across the quadrangle) and is actively involved assisting with the 6.00 p.m. Mass on Sundays. Fr Dominic leads the Lay Dominicans in Evening Prayer following the Mass at 7.00 p.m.

The Catechism is discussed in the meetings during one of the Sundays in the month. For further information, please contact Stephen Peterson.
